July 14, 2024

The final handovers have taken place for one of Stevenage Borough Council’s most ambitious new
building developments which has seen Phase 1 deliver 176 new homes and 5 retail units.

This development includes a new state of the art independent living scheme consisting of 88 one
and two bedroom apartments. It boasts new facilities such as a roof terrace garden, library, games
room, launderette, TV Lounge and a café that will be open to the wider public as well as the
residents of the scheme and a much improved and more structured green space.

The need for independent living properties for the elderly in Stevenage is on the increase, with an
anticipated 64 per cent rise in the number of over 65s in the town between 2011 and 2031.
Stevenage Borough Council has taken a pro-active approach to ensure that the needs of this client
group are not only met, but that their quality of life is enhanced as much as possible.

PSW have been gaining experience in the area of older person accommodation over the past 15
years, working with Local Authorities and other Social Housing Providers. PSW therefore has
invaluable knowledge when it comes to the design and the pitfalls of delivering homes for older
people.

The retail offer to the local area has also been improved with five new units at the centre of the
development facing out onto a central green space.

Matthew Ford, Director at PSW and Employers Agent said: “This is a project of local and regional
significance. The client’s objectives have been clear from the start and we are pleased that the
success of this development will positively shape the area and improve the living standards and
environment for local people. We now look forward to progressing with Phase 2.”
