PSW have completed Phase 1 of Stevenage Borough Council’s most ambitious new building developments to date, delivering 176 dwellings and 5 retail units with a mix of 118 affordable rent units and 58 for private sale.
The diverse local community is now served by a mix of well-designed properties for affordable rent, social rent and Private Sale.
The development also includes a new state of the art independent living scheme consisting of 88 one and two bedroom apartments. It also boasts an array of communal facilities including a roof terrace garden, guest suite, TV Lounge, Spa, Library and hobby rooms as well as a much improved and more structured green space.
The need for independent living properties for the elderly in Stevenage is on the increase, with an anticipated 64 per cent rise in the number of over 65s in the town between 2011 and 2031. Stevenage Borough Council is taking a pro-active approach to ensure that the needs of this client group are not only met, but that their quality of life is enhanced as much as possible.
PSW have been gaining experience in the area of older person accommodation over the past 15 years, working with Local Authorities and other Social Housing Providers. PSW therefore has invaluable knowledge when it comes to the design and the pitfalls of delivering homes for older people.
The retail offer to the local area has also been improved with five new units at the centre of the development facing out onto a central green space.
Matthew Ford, Director at PSW and Employers Agent for the project said: “This is a project of local and regional significance. The client’s objectives are clear and honourable and we have welcomed the opportunity to be part of a team which has helped shape this area and improve the living standards and environment for local people.”
